A performative enactment inspired by our roles of organising Textile initiative ~ of constantly searching for, reviving and reimagining craft. We crafted our own handmade tools from raw materials, such as large scale ceramic needles and a net made from raw flax, and practiced textile handwork techniques on an enlarged scale ~ combing, netting, repairing, twisting flax to make ropes, repeating. We invited visitors to practice with us in the slow and soothing rhythms of handcraft and shared conversations related to the material and motions.
Plaited through Shimmer’s exhibitions in 2024 are events curated by artist Meghan Clarke as part of the Sunday Morning with… event program.
SUNDAY MORNINGS WITH... is an event-based project that aims to tease out hidden connections, quiet conversations, and influences ordinarily kept private. Far from articulating artworks through just the verbal, the program aims to create an environment where bodies, materials, ideas, and conversations come together, as a place to seed new ideas for both artistic practices and the community that surround Shimmer.
