Details:
This series of three workshops (Sashiko, Darning, Swiss darning) cover the three main techniques I use in my practice and will give you a good basis to repair both knitwear and woven materials. You can see examples and explanations of each below. You’re welcome to sign up for one or more workshops.
We will begin each workshop with a small introduction of the technique and look at some examples. We will practice on sample fabrics, and then you can move onto your own garments. There will be time to get individual advice on your pieces and to ask any questions you have. You’ll also be encouraged to think about the sentimental/emotional value of your clothes and to share stories through garments while we practice.
No experience necessary, complete beginners are welcome as well as those with experience who would like some tips/advice.
CostThe cost of one workshop is €65, or if you book more than one workshop in this series there is a discount price of €50 per workshop. This includes materials and tea/coffee/snack.
Sign up:To sign up, send me an email at bronwen.yj@gmail.com stating which workshop(s) you would like to join. I will send a payment link to confirm your attendance.
Upcoming workshops in other locations:27 June Masterclass Visible Mending with Crafts Council, Museum Arnhem, Arnhem, NL

~Sashiko, inspired by the Japanese repair technique, is used to reinforce thinning areas or repair holes in woven fabrics. It can be applied to cotton, silk, linen, denim, or home textiles, using a patch and a series of running stitches.
~Darning is a technique used to repair holes in both knitted and woven fabrics by creating a woven structure within the material.
~Swiss darning is a technique that replicates the knit stitch. It can be used to repair holes, to strengthen thinning areas, or as an embellishment.
*I recommend taking the swiss darning workshop either after doing the woven darning workshop or if you already have some experience with knitting, as it’s a slightly more complicated technique.
